ASAP's
presence on the ground in often inaccessible areas of South Africa provides
us the opportunity to understand cultural barriers and to form close
working relationships with the women who run these Community Base Organisations (CBO)
ASAP helps CBO leadership and staff in basic accounting skills
and CBO management as well as training in monitoring and evaluation.
ASAP has taken CBOs from having no systems for tracking orphans to maintaining
computer databases on children accessing services. By monitoring children in CBO drop-in centres, at home and in schools, we continues
to assess the effects of CBO intervention and support. ASAP supports
the CBO structure by promoting group decision making and transparency.
Field officers attend meetings with government agencies and local Ward Counselors
and offer matching participation in CBO support. ASAP also works alongside
our Partner CBOs with local Chiefs and tribal elders in matters often
pertaining to land and water.
