Approximately
$25 sends an orphan to school for one year with a uniform and learning
materials. The ASAP School to School programme has provided 1400 orphans
and vulnerable children with an education since its inception 3 years
ago.
School to School gives US students a chance to give back and provide an education to South African orphans. Spearheaded by the East Woods School, in Oyster Bay, New York, Sasha Wade, Director of School to School, and Martine Tawajii, Community Service Director, have helped the children develop innovative ways of raising money. East Woods students and the school community, with a matching grant from the Lindsay Family Foundation, have ensured that many of these South African orphans are now going into their third year at school.
For these vulnerable children this is their only hope for the future. School is a safe place, where their progress can be closely monitored by their teachers and uniforms give the children dignity. Not only is education every child's right, it will also help create a healthier global society.
South
African and US students participating in the School to School programme
communicate with each other through letters and pictures under teacher
supervision. This cultural exchange is having an enormous impact on
the lives of all the children involved.
100% of all School to School donations go directly to registration fees, uniforms and learning materials. ASAP does not deduct any overhead or administrative percentage from monies raised by this programme.
